Common Questions
Your Ricardo checked luggage,
Your Ricardo checked luggage,
answered.
It comes down to trip length and how you pack. Ricardo medium check-in bags (typically 24″–25″) work well for 4–7 day trips and are easier to lift off a baggage carousel. Large check-in bags (typically 28″–30″) are built for 7+ day trips or families sharing one bag. If you tend to overpack or travel with gear, go large. If you pack light and hate waiting at baggage claim, go medium. See our Size & Weight Guide for a full breakdown.
For families, a large check-in gives you the most room. The Montecito 2.0 Hardside Large Check-In and Rodeo Drive 2.0 Hardside Large both have premium polycarbonate shells, a built-in TSA lock, and durable spinner wheels. If sustainability matters to your family, the Avalon rPET Large Check-In is made from GRS-certified recycled materials and stays exceptionally light. You can also save with our luggage sets, available in 2-piece and 3-piece configurations.
Most Ricardo checked bags include a built-in TSA-recognized combination lock where you set your own 3-digit code. TSA agents can open and re-lock the bag during inspections without cutting it. Oceano is the one exception and doesn't include a built-in TSA lock, so check the individual product page before you buy.
Both are 100% polycarbonate hardside bags, but they suit slightly different travelers. Montecito 2.0 is our most feature-rich line, with a removable toiletry bag, organized interior pockets, and a refined silhouette. Cambria is bolder and more colorful, with a scratch-resistant shell and a simpler interior, and it's a good pick if you want standout style at a more accessible price.
Most Ricardo checked bags have an expansion zipper that adds about 2″ of extra packing depth, handy for souvenir-heavy return trips. Keep in mind that expanding the bag increases its overall size, which can push it over airline weight limits if you're already packing close to the max. We'd suggest leaving a few pounds of buffer on the way out so there's room to expand on the way back.
If maximizing your weight allowance matters most, look at our softside and lightweight hardside options. Avalon rPET checked bags are among our lightest, since the recycled fabric construction keeps the bag weight down. In hardside, Melrose is built for a lighter feel without giving up durability. Both come in medium and large check-in sizes.
Yes. Most Ricardo collections come as 2-piece sets (carry-on plus large check-in) or 3-piece sets (carry-on plus medium and large check-in), at a solid discount over buying pieces separately. Matching sets also make spotting your bags on the carousel a lot easier. Browse the full luggage sets collection to find the right combination.
All Ricardo Beverly Hills checked luggage comes with a 10-year limited warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. Visit our Warranty & Care page for full details and to register your bag.
